Why don't you tell someone something heartfelt and nice today! It will make their day!
It's always nice to hear a positive comment from someone. Knowing some of these words is important when writing a birthday card, an email to congratulate someone, or simply commending someone from work. Even if you're not a boss or a teacher, you can still tell someone, "You are hardworking" or "You are awesome!"

As we all know, there are seven days in a week. Saturdays and Sundays are usually rest days so we call them "weekends" (the end of the week because we usually work Monday to Friday).
The days between Monday to Friday are known as "weekdays", these are the days we usually go to work. It's also important to know that "weekday" and "days of the week" are not the same thing. In "days of the week" we refer to all seven days of the week (Monday-Sunday.) In some cases we have a holiday either on a Monday or Friday. This means the weekend is extended for extra days of rest. We call this a "long weekend." I wish we could have a long weekend every week! It's also important to know the common abbreviations of these days. Monday= Mon. Tuesday= Tues. Wednesday= Wed. Thursday= Thurs. Friday= Fri. Saturday= Sat. Sunday=Sun. If you're interested in hearing how the days of the week are pronounced, you may want to take a listen to Rachel's English. She does a great job of showing how each day should be pronounced in American English. Watch and listen. What's your favorite day of the week? Are you good at multitasking? I am! I tend to do multiple things at the same time. My husband always tells me my mind is like a ping-pong ball, it never stops. I'm always thinking and doing something constantly! Most of the time, it's doing many things at the same time.
The word multitasking describes this. "Multi" is a word meaning "many" and the word "task"is a noun meaning "project" or "work." So to multi-task means to do many projects at the same time. Do you multitask a lot like me? When we learn English, one of the most important things to know is how to talk about singular (one thing) and plural (more than one thing). You might know that when there is one item (for example, 'book') we just 'a book' or 'one book.' When we want to say more than one book, we add the letter 's' after the word to become 'books.'
In most cases, to make a singular noun to a plural noun, we add an 's' or 'es' after the word. However, as you can tell from the word 'jeans' there are some words that never have a singular form. Which means that even if there is just one item, we always use the plural form (jeans). If the word jeans is always plural, it also means that the noun takes on a plural verb ('are' not 'is'). As I've mentioned many times before, English can definitely get confusing and it is near impossible to memorize everything. The best way to learn is to listen and speak more! It will start to become more natural for you! Do you like to drink coffee? I didn't like it so much before, but Seattle is known as the world coffee capital (it's where Starbucks was born!) so it's become a part of my culture now! A lot of the coffee shops here are unique and sometimes "quirky". They range from simple cafes that are perfect for working and reading, to coffee shops with interesting and artsy decor with live music. Some of the Starbucks here even serve local wine, so there really is a wide variety of coffee shops here. It's the perfect place to be for a coffee lover. My favorite coffee to drink is a cappuccino, what about you? Do you like to put milk and sugar in your coffee or do you drink it black? |
