Literacy Source | Seattle, USA
Since 1986 Literacy Source has provided free classes and one-on-one tutoring for low-income adults working to gain the basic literacy skills they need to thrive. With the help of over 200 volunteers, Literacy Source provides over 20,000 hours of small group and individualized instruction each year. These include ESL classes, computer skills, GED, and basic skills in reading, writing, and math. Learners range in age from 18-81, speak more than 40 languages, and represent 65 nations. House of Dreams | Taipei, Taiwan
In 2006, House of Dreams, a life-enhancing center for youths, was established in the Ximending neighborhood of Taipei city. It was created to provide a safe and stable place for the growing population of at-risk youths. The mission of the center is to become companions to young people as they struggle through difficulties, encourage and inspire them through the molding of character, abilities, creativity and public service. By providing the finest facilities and assortment of educational programs, activities, and mentoring, these youths can reach their full potential, improve their quality of life, and make their own dreams come true. HOUSE OF DREAMS has served over 3,500 young people. Every week, 400 youths visit the center. As these young people receive companionship, love, care, and support, they can believe that no matter their background and past, their dreams can come to life and they can become remarkable leaders of tomorrow.
