The English Student, English Student, The English Student blog, ESL blog, ESL website, fun ESL sites, bucket list, what's a bucket list, what's on your bucket list, ESL slang, things to do before you die,
A "bucket list" is a list of all the things in life you want to achieve, experience, or fulfill before you die (goals, dreams, or experiences).

It comes from the term "kick the bucket" which means "to die." So a "bucket list" is a list of things to do before you die.

Having a "bucket list" helps you create more meaning to your life.
Last year I finally achieved one thing off my bucket list, which was to start a blog!

Do you have your own list? If not, why don't you make one so you could create more purpose in your life and let go of your fears!

Here are some questions you can start thinking about:

(1) If I died tomorrow, what are some things I wish I could do before?
(2) Is there anything new I want to try out?
(3) What do I want to do to create more meaning in my life?
(4) What places do I want to visit?
(5) What type of person do I want to become and how will I get there?

Please share, what is one thing on your "bucket list"?

Finger Names!

The English Student, English Student, English Student blog, ESL blog, English blog, fun ESL sites, learn English, names of fingers, why is the thumb called a thumb, why is the pinky called a pinky,
Do you know the names of each finger?

The "middle finger" and "ring finger" are not too hard to remember. The "middle finger" is in the middle of all the fingers and the "ring finger" is the finger that we put our big diamond wedding ring on! But do you know the meaning of "thumb," "index finger," and "pinky?"

The "thumb" comes from the Old English word, tûmon meaning "thick." As you can tell, the "thumb" is the thickest finger of all.

The "index finger" comes from the word "index" which means "point (noun)." We usually use this finger to point at something. So the "index finger" is also sometimes called the "pointer finger."

The smallest finger is called "pinky" because it comes from the Dutch word "pink" for little finger. It doesn't have anything to do with the color pink!

English is so interesting, isn't it?

Mood Swings!

Mood swings!!! We all have them sometimes! But what does it mean?

Think of a swing.....
Have you ever been on one as a kid?  You swing up and down, up and down. Sometimes it can get very high and moves quickly or it can swing low. It changes all the time and unexpectedly.

This is exactly what "mood swings" mean: when a person's mood goes "up and down, up and down" like a swing. It changes rapidly.

A person
may wake up feeling very happy but then he/she walks into the kitchen to make their morning coffee only to realize there's no more left! This might alter their mood suddenly and can make them go from being happy to feeling annoyed and angry. "Mood swing" means a rapid change in your state of feeling and emotions, just like a swing! Up and down, up and down.
